Education is Jurat’s main area of work in GBAO

The main area of activity of the public organization «Jurat» is taking part in, and making a significant contribution to, the development of education in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.

Building on the foundation laid over many years and its experience in teaching and upbringing, the organization makes it a priority to develop the system by introducing and effectively using new forms and methods of teaching, which allow it to move beyond rigid, top-down curriculum standards.

The organization’s primary goal is to raise the education of children, teenagers and young people to modern standards. This widens their opportunities for further development: preparing for admission to prestigious universities in neighbouring and more distant countries, working productively, and meeting their spiritual needs.

Since 2016, our organization has been working in the following areas:

• teaching foreign languages, especially English and Russian;

• in-depth study of the exact sciences, primarily mathematics;

• the basics of financial literacy;

• skills for working with modern computer technology.

Despite difficulties and obstacles, «Jurat» has organized courses for in-depth study of English.

In 2016 there was only one group of 17 students, and lessons were held in a private home. Today 54 groups with 2,144 students are running, not only in Rushan District but also in Darvoz, Vanj and Shughnon districts.

One of the key measures of the organization’s work is creating new jobs and employing specialists who were out of work. Today 56 highly qualified teachers work with us, 48 of them women.

To run the teaching process successfully, «Jurat» has built mutually beneficial ties with local authorities, NGOs, entrepreneurs and other partners. Cooperation with the School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) of the University of Central Asia on many questions of our students’ educational development is especially important.
