To mark the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Sadriddin Ayni public library in Kulob will be fully renovated and modernised.
The project is part of the region's Years of Reading Culture 2026–2030 and is supported by the Executive Authority of Khatlon Region and the Republican public organisation «Jurat». The total cost of the work is estimated at 4 million somoni.
Construction and renovation work is already under way in the library building and is scheduled to be completed by September this year. The work is carried out by the Capital Construction Department of Khatlon Region.
After the reconstruction, the library will become not only a renewed cultural and educational space but also a modern learning centre for the people of Kulob. It will house study centres dedicated to the books of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, and to the President's addresses to the Majlisi Oli. The library will also get an electronic library, widening readers' access to modern educational and information resources.
Earlier, in January this year, the leadership of Kulob State University named after Abuabdullo Rudaki donated 400 books on science, literature, history, culture and pedagogy, as well as 10 modern bookshelves, to the library's collection.
For NGO «Jurat», taking part in this project is part of its long-term work to develop education, make knowledge more accessible and support initiatives that build a culture of reading among young people and the wider public.
